Suji Jung begins with the process of adding and subtracting basic formal elements, focusing on the sculptural acts revealed through repetition and variation. By engaging closely with various media—including printmaking, installation, and sculpture—she reconfigures the physical properties of materials and derives indescribable joy from the energy she creates and discovers within them. This is an intimate dialogue and an exchange of gestures between the artist and the subject. There is a moment of completion—one that can be reached the more faithfully one adheres to the medium.
The language of vision takes on concreteness, and that concreteness is transmitted from me to others via specific images. Subjective artistic creation is not a matter of mindlessly digging up the ground and passively waiting for something to emerge someday; rather, it is akin to a ceaseless act of excavation—delving into and seizing perception. The truth of the artistic practice it aims for is that even upon seeing the tiniest fragment of something, it immediately occupies a place of recognition.
